Join us monthly to generate new creative writing inspired by works in the Stanley collection. A different, talented writer in our area will lead each session, offering a new prompt and a new approach to ekphrastic writing (that is, writing inspired by visual art). Bring your own notebook and pencil or computer and leave with the start of a newly written piece. Writers in all genres are welcome. Cosponsored by Iowa City Poetry.

The January session will be led by Barbara Price. Barbara received a PhD in English from the University of Iowa and recently retired after 20 years of teaching English and English education classes at Truman State University.  Early involvement in the Missouri Writing Project profoundly changed her approach to teaching, leading her to put writing at the heart of every class she taught.  Later, the Iowa Writing Project provided her with an important and valued professional community.  Her experience with writing and teaching writing is long and varied, including writing a pop-up book, American Folktales, published by Hallmark; writing/editing The Official Guide to the ACT Assessment, published by Harcourt; serving as a writing specialist at ACT and NCS; and leading memoir-writing workshops for Humanities Iowa, the Iowa Writing Project, and the University of Iowa summer writing program.  In retirement, Barbara is actively involved in supporting arts organizations in the Iowa City area, including the Stanley Museum of Art and Orchestra Iowa.
